You often ask...
Do I need any dance experience to start Irish step dancing?
No. You don’t need any previous dance experience to join our beginner step dancing classes. We start step by step from the very beginning — from correct posture and basic technique to your first steps and simple dance combinations. All you need is the desire to move, learn something new, and enjoy Irish music.
Is Irish step dancing suitable for adult beginners?
Yes! You can start Irish dancing at any age. Many adult dancers discovered Irish dance later in life — simply because they always loved the music, rhythm, and energy of this style. You don’t need to have ambitions to compete or perform. You can dance simply because you enjoy it.
How long does it take before I start dancing in hard shoes?
It depends on each dancer. Everyone progresses at their own pace. In general, building a good foundation in soft shoes first is important. Once you feel more confident with the basic technique, you can gradually start exploring hard shoes as well. In our adult courses, we introduce both soft shoes and hard shoes from the very beginning. Irish dance is not a race — the most important thing is to enjoy the whole journey.
Do I need to buy special dance shoes?
No. For your first classes, comfortable sports clothes and socks are enough. We recommend buying proper dance shoes later, once you decide to continue. If we have your size available, beginners can also borrow second-hand dance shoes from us to experience the difference that dancing in proper shoes makes.
Is Irish step dancing physically demanding?
Yes and no. Irish step dancing gradually develops your fitness, strength, and coordination. But you don’t need to arrive already “in shape”. Through regular practice, your stamina, speed, and confidence will naturally improve step by step.
